Postdoctoral Fellowship in Long-term Freshwater Community and Ecosystem Dynamics at McGill University
DNA preserved in lake sediment records (sedDNA) is greatly expanding the spectrum of questions possible with paleolimnology; from defining the long-term dynamics of organisms that don’t leave subfossils to addressing broader food-web interactions. We have funding to conduct metagenomic analyses of sediment records to identify past changes in food web dynamics and quantify shifts in ecosystem functions in Quebec lakes. We anticipate launching quickly as we have samples in house already. We are seeking a candidate who has expertise in metagenomic bioinformatics, and a background paleoecological methods is an asset. The candidate should be prepared to start at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, in winter 2027.
Assuming satisfactory performance, the selected postdoctoral fellow will be provided funding for two years. The candidate would receive a salary of at least $55,000/yr. + McGill University benefits.
Application requirements: Candidates will be required to submit their CV, three representative publications and the names and contact information for three references. More information about the co-supervisors and collaborators of this project are listed below. Applicants should hold a PhD degree by the time the position starts in a field relevant to the call and should be no more than 3 years post-PhD (leaves not included). We will start reviewing applications on Nov 9, 2026; applications will be accepted until a suited candidate has been found.
